In a crucial step to tackle the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), Indonesia is strengthening its collaboration with the Fleming Fund Country Grant to Indonesia (FFCGI). On March 12, Agung Suganda, the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health Services, met with FFCGI delegates, including Dr Tom Weaver, to discuss the sustainability of their joint efforts as the initiative enters its second phase (2024–2025).
The program focuses on boosting Indonesia’s laboratory capabilities, implementing more substantial disease prevention and control measures, and advancing research and innovation in livestock health. As AMR continues to pose significant risks to both public and animal health, these efforts aim to curb the overuse of antibiotics in farming and improve early detection of resistant pathogens.
With global concerns rising over AMR’s potential to undermine modern medicine, Indonesia’s commitment to this partnership underscores the country’s proactive approach to safeguarding food security, public health, and sustainable livestock practices.
